Water and Leaves

This design was the winner of a competition sponsored by Eucalyptus Knoll, Mill Valley, California, to find a water feature for a courtyard in the complex. A fallen plane tree leaf taken from the Eucalyptus Knoll site was the genesis of the sculpture. Its three-dimensional form was transferred into bronze, as it was cut from bronze sheet and forged into a leaf shape. Approximately 40 of these leaves create the center column of the sculpture and the path of travel for the water. The bronze leaves and the water are then supported and, in a sense, protected by, the steel pipe structure rising around them.
