For Them : The Conversation I Never Had with Two People I Never Met in Four Parts

Four seemingly unrelated objects hang on the wall, appearing to offer only their form and materials for contemplation. They are each charged with meaning through my imagined conversation with a woman and a man played through speakers hung in front of each object. The piece is about sexual violence against women by men. The conversation is below, as sound recordings and in text.

To Them : I made a chain for you.

To Her : I would have used it to protect you - lock you in.

To Him : I would have used it to stop you - locked you out.

To Them : I mixed a potion for you.

To Her : I Would have given it to you so you wouldn’t have to think, to feel, or to fear.

To Him : I would have given it to you to rid you of any selfish desires and make you capable of only empathy.

To Them : I wove a cloth for you.

To Her : I would have placed it over your body as a shroud.

To Him : I would have placed it over your head like a hood.

To Them : I formed a ring for you.

To Her : I would have hung it above your head as a halo.

To Him : I would have tightened it around your neck as a noose.
