Advice from the Heart

This design was one of six chosen by San Francisco General Hospital's Foundation to be part of its 2011 series of Hearts in San Francisco - a public art exhibition in conjunction with the annual fundraiser "Heroes & Hearts Luncheon."  Advice from the Heart is a series of etched brass speech bubbles that encircle the hospital's iconic fiberglass heart.  The speech bubbles offer the kind of advice for living that someone who cares about you might give.

The speech bubbles contain the following etched text:

wear sunscreen

don’t be late

drink more water

bread plate…to the left
water glass…to the right

go play outside

don't talk with your mouth full

don't eat too many sweets

follow the rules

it's okay to cry

no yelling

eat your vegetables

if you can't say something nice,
don't say anything at all

don't stay up too late

say you’re sorry and mean it

you'll understand when you're older

what did you learn today?

you can't please everyone

keep your promises

be patient

treat others as you would
like to be treated

shhh!  be quiet!

listen

chew with your mouth shut

don’t whine

practice, practice, practice

try your hardest

learn from your mistakes

respect others and their opinions

clean up your messes

are you paying attention?

money isn't everything…

stop feeling sorry for yourself

stop procrastinating
